In summer, our hibiscus – Lou Lou® – is in full bloom and more and more of us are daring to eat its flowers, whose properties have numerous benefits for our bodies.

That’s why it’s worth encouraging your customers to buy it, not only for the decorative potential of its magnificent flowers, which this year come in over 20 different shades, but also because eating it helps to maintain the health of the whole family.

Here are just some of the many benefits:

It is important to know that a hibiscus flower generally lasts no longer than 1 day. At lou lou® we have 2 different ranges of hibiscus, MultifloraTM (continuous flowering) and LongifloraTM (long flowering).

It is fashionable to grow aromatic plants, vegetables, fruit trees, etc., but more and more often we find customers who also want to eat the harvest of their flowers.

For the latter, I am going to give you 2 very simple recipes that will certainly not leave anyone indifferent. I have tried them myself and enjoyed them very much!

  1. First recipe: Hibiscus infusion

I like to make this hot infusion of dried hibiscus by leaving it in the sun for a few hours.

Ingredients:

– 250 ml of water

– 4 dehydrated hibiscus flowers

Sweetener of your choice, although I personally prefer not to use any to retain the original flavour.

Blanch the dehydrated hibiscus flowers in boiling water for 3 minutes. Strain and sweeten as required.

That’s it! Enjoy in a glass with ice cubes…

  1. Second suggestion: Hibiscus sweets

Here I surprised the young and old in my house because no one could tell me what they were, but they all agreed that they looked like gummy bears.

You will need the following ingredients

– Fresh hibiscus flowers

– 250ml water

– 25 gr sugar (I personally made a very light syrup, but it is up to individual taste)

When the flowers start to close and curl up, caramelise them in the syrup and leave to cool.

These two recipes are easy to remember and will not take you long… all you have to do is display a wide range of colours in your garden centre so that your customers can admire the natural spectacle of hibiscus in bloom, in single or double flowers, and choose which one or more to take home.

Don’t forget to advise your customers to plant them in a place where they will be protected from frost when the cold weather arrives, or to keep them in pots so that they can bring them indoors and decorate any home with their flowers, provided they receive one hour of sunshine a day.
