In this article we talk about a very common plant with great properties: ALOE VERA.

Legend has it that Cleopatra used aloe vera to preserve her beauty, which is why it was known as “the plant of immortality”. Why not have one at home with such fame?

Its leaves are fleshy with a length between 30 and 60 cm. Its flowers are yellow (although there may be some orange ones) and usually appear when the plant is an adult, i.e. after 3 years of age. This is when its properties as a natural remedy begin to stand out 100%.

It is a plant that does not need a large space to stay healthy. It adapts perfectly to a pot and you can put it indoors or outdoors, as long as it is protected from frost.

Basic care:

  • Temperature: This plant needs a warm climate. As mentioned before, it does not withstand frost, so if you place it outdoors, you should protect it during the cold season.
  • Light: full sun is not necessary, as it can burn the tips of the leaves. If you have it outdoors, semi-shade will suit it well.
  • Watering: regularly without puddling. Water every 15 days in winter and every 3 or 4 days in summer. Use light, well-drained peat.
  • Fertilisation: once a month during the growing season.

Aloe vera is not usually consumed directly because of the bitter taste of its leaves, but it is very useful to have it at home because of its natural properties.

We tell you about its most common uses:

  1. Skin conditions: it is a classic remedy in the treatment of any type of skin problem due to its antibiotic and antifungal properties that attack fungi and bacteria that may be found on the skin.
It has a soothing, astringent and cell regenerating effect. It is indicated for the treatment of burns, scalds, wounds, scratches, acne problems and insect bites. It is also a natural remedy against cold sores.

  2. Cosmetic use: it has a moisturising effect that keeps the skin healthy and young, which is why it forms part of the composition of many creams and bath soaps that we use on a daily basis.

You can also use the gel from its leaves.

Here is a homemade recipe: cut off the oldest leaf of the plant and slice it. Separate the outer skin with a knife and put the gel inside a dark container and cover it with an oil of your choice. Keep it for 28 days in a cool, dark place. Then strain the oil into another dark container and you can use it on your skin for about a month to keep it elastic and youthful.

You can also apply it undiluted to a cotton pad to remove make-up. Afterwards, wash your face with lukewarm water.

Digestive system: Aloe vera is a natural laxative. Just take a spoonful of fresh gel and you will feel better. Laxatives are not recommended for pregnant women or children, in these cases, it is best to consult a doctor.

Finally, we do not want to say goodbye without mentioning its use in decoration. This plant adapts well to any space and is a beautiful and healthy choice.

All of the above makes aloe vera a miracle plant.

It is ideal for promotions due to its low maintenance in the shop and its high demand, you can find it in Rachel&Co in standard and ORGANIC production.
