Summer is coming to an end and soon we will enter to enjoy the interior of our home.

To do this and with the aim of maintaining a positive mood, the Rachel&Co team invites you to update the decoration of the house, to renew fabrics so that they are more appropriate to the temperatures that will come and to fill your corners with color and light with some plants indoors, because nature will give you life.

“Passion for all living things” or “Love for living things”. This is Biophilia. Today I am talking about it and its meaning in our daily lives, whether at home, in the office, in general construction, in restaurants, in shopping malls, etc…

Eric Fromm was the first to give meaning to this term. He was followed by evolutionary biologist Edward O. Wilson, who argued that the natural affinity for life is the very essence of our humanity and binds us to all other species. Finally, in 1995 Stephen Kellert gives a new definition to the term presenting it as the innate human affinity for nature.

In light of this, there is no need to explain much more, because when we lack energy, we need to disconnect, oxygenate ourselves or charge batteries, we usually look for pure and natural places such as the countryside or the sea.

Biophilic elements have been shown to improve productivity, well-being, stress, creativity and learning.

Therefore, it has been shown that Biophilia applied to architecture, for example, provides multiple benefits.

  1. A biophilic design creates healthy and happy environments. Spaces related to nature increase the well-being and vitality of those who enjoy it.
  2. It is not only about plants and the use of natural materials, but also the representation of geometric patterns found in the forms of Nature.
  3. Consider light as part of our rhythm, maximizing natural light, making this the daily lighting system.
  4. The water present in the spaces brings benefits to our health. It has been shown to improve memory, lower blood pressure, lower heart rate, and increase feelings of calm.
  5. Feeling nature through the air improves people’s performance, alternating or varying the environmental conditions.
  6. Introduce nature through all the senses: hearing, sight, touch…

For this reason, bringing nature to our spaces is extremely favorable for our lives, wherever it may be, and if we introduce it into our homes, the emotional result is unimaginable.

But how to enjoy biophilia at home?

There are many ways to do it, but we mention some of them:

  • Decorate your rooms or your workplace with indoor plants and place them in appropriate spaces to assimilate natural light well, avoiding direct sunlight if necessary.
  • Make the most of daylight with curtains that let in a lot of light. Large, well-oriented windows are the best choice.
  • Use natural and light colored fabrics to decorate your sofa, your bed or your curtains.
  • Do not clutter rooms with excessive decoration, expand the space to promote relaxation.
  • Don’t forget to properly ventilate and air-condition your spaces. It will be of great help to you.

Do you dare to give us any more advice? There is a lot to say about it!

Passion for plants, living nature… See you soon.
