The careful, ongoing care given to each plant according to its nature allows it to grow and develop at a good pace.

In our previous blog, we talked about which plants to focus on during the summer months, but knowing how to look after them is just as important as choosing the right plants.

In this article, I’m going to explain how I look after all my plants in general, so I hope that helps!

  1. Regular watering: It’s very important to water your plants, but even more so during the summer months, when temperatures rise and they can’t maintain their water reserves for very long. What’s more, I’d add that we have a lot of potted plants, where it’s impossible for moisture to seep in or for the plant’s roots to fetch it. Adjusting the watering when the peat is dry will be more than enough for most varieties.
  2. Protection from intense sun: although many plants love the sun, the midday sun can be too strong. Placing plants in part shade during the hottest part of the day will keep most varieties looking good without yellowing or burning their leaves.
  3. Fertilising: feeding plants with the right fertiliser can help them stay healthy and flower throughout the season, so depending on the variety, this may be necessary.
  4. Pruning and maintenance: cutting back spent flowers and dry leaves induces new flowering, which helps to maintain growth and keep plants in their best shape.

All that’s left is for me to remind you that summer is far from being a dead season when it comes to selling plants. Invite your customers to transform their outdoor spaces into oases of freshness and greenery this summer.

Offering a wide range of summer plants not only enhances porches, gardens and balconies, but also creates a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy sunny days. Take the opportunity to offer them all the care they need to thrive and stay beautiful all season long.
